Cops: Mom left child in car in Lawrence
A Far Rockaway mother was arrested Wednesday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she left her 1-year-old in a locked car while she went shopping in Lawrence, police said.
On a day when temperatures reached into the mid-80's or more in some areas, Shanequa Mason, 22, of 556 Aztec Place, left her daughter inside a locked 1997 Toyota Camry for about 15 minutes to shop at a store on Rockaway Turnpike, Nassau police said.
A Nassau ambulance responded about 3 p.m., and the child, examined by an advanced medical technician, was unharmed, police said, and was later released to a family member.
Mason was to appear in First District Court, Hempstead, on July 25.
