A state police car was struck in North Valley Stream Monday night by a civilian motorist who initially fled the scene in the vehicle, police said, but was apprehended a short time later.

There were no apparent injuries, state police said.

The collision took place on Franklin Avenue near the Southern State Parkway about 8:50 p.m., police said.

No information was immediately available from police concerning the identity of the driver, or possible charges.
