A 23-year-old man who was robbed after pulling his car over on a street in Farmingdale to make a phone call managed to escape his assailants late Tuesday night, but not before they shot out his rear window with a BB gun, police said.

Nassau County police said the incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Sherman Road.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was unharmed in the incident.

Police said the victim had pulled his car over to make a phone call when two men approached and one displayed a gun, demanding the cellphone, cash and the keys to the car.

The victim gave the suspects his phone, police said, but had no money -- and refused to turn over his car keys.

The suspects finally told the victim to leave, but as he did, police said the armed suspect fired three shots from the BB gun, striking the vehicle three times and "shattering the rear window." The suspects then fled on foot.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
