He left DNA evidence at the scene of the crime, police said. Now, Daniel R. Dierberger, 43, of 1945 Jones Ave. in North Wantagh, is under arrest, charged with two burglaries -- one last month, another that took place in January.

Nassau County police said that on June 19, Dierberger broke into the Song Cuisine restaurant on Jerusalem Avenue in Massapequa through a rear bathroom window, then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and 40 cans of cola from the restaurant refrigerator.

But, police said, Dierberger left behind DNA evidence in the form of "a blood smear."

That evidence was traced to him, police said, and he was arrested Tuesday at the Long Island Rail Road station in Wantagh.

During the subsequent investigation, police said detectives determined Dierberger also was responsible for burglarizing the Hairtastic Salon on North Broadway in North Massapequa on Jan. 14, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Dierberger faces two counts of third-degree burglary. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
