Cops: Nassau jail prisoner caught with oxycodone

A prisoner at the Nassau County jail in East Meadow was arrested on a felony contraband charge Wednesday afternoon when guards searched his cell and found two oxycodone pills, police said.

Adam Gibson, 29, of Merrick, was taken from the jail to Nassau Police Department headquarters in Mineola to be processed on a charge of first-degree promoting prison contraband.

Nassau narcotics bureau detectives said Gibson was scheduled to be arraigned on the new charge Thursday at First District Court, Hempstead.

Court records show Gibson had been in the Nassau jail since Nov. 30, 2011, when he was arraigned on eight misdemeanor drug sales and possession charges, one felony drug charge and one felony gun possession charge, court records show. He was arraigned Dec. 1, 2011, with bail set at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash, and since that time he has not posted bail, records show. There have been 10 court continuances in the 2011 drug charges.
