Two Hempstead men allegedly smoking marijuana in a parked car Tuesday in Westbury tried to elude arrest, Nassau County police said.

Third Squad detectives said Lloyd Davis, 23, of 75 James Burrell Ave., and Christian Hines, 20, of 207 Cedar St., were sitting in a 2011 Chevrolet in a lot at 829 Merrick Ave. at about 10 p.m.

Officers could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle and investigated, police said.

Both men were removed from the car, and police said they saw what looked like a bag of marijuana in the center console. When officers tried to arrest them, both Davis and Hines ran off, police said.

Hines ran south and lost his sneakers, where a bag containing what appeared to be methamphetamine was recovered, police said. Davis ran westbound.

Police used a Canine Unit and found Hines in a parking lot at 655 Merrick Ave. After a struggle in which one officer hurt his shoulder and another a finger, Hines was arrested, police said.

Davis was found behind by the Canine Unit in the rear of 1575 Privado Rd., police said. After another struggle in which an officer fractured a hand, Davis also was arrested.

All three officers were taken to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released.

Lloyd is charged with second-degree assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest; Hines is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Each is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
