One burglar distracted an 81-year-old West Hempstead resident Friday while her partner took money and valuables from the man's home, police said.

A woman at the front door of his home on South Cherry Valley Avenue convinced the resident to walk outside and away from the house, about 11 a.m., police said. The woman's accomplice then was able to enter and burglarize the house, police said.

Nassau police said they are looking for a compact red car, possibly foreign made, with Florida plates, that may have been used by the suspects.

Detectives asked that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
