The passenger accused in the Monday attack on a Nassau Inter-County Express bus driver was arrested Wednesday on an assault charge, police said.

Ivey Dixon, 27, of Hempstead, was arrested on Terrace Avenue and was transferred to the custody of the Nassau County police Fifth Squad, Hempstead Village Assistant Chief Joseph Sortino said in a statement.

Dixon was charged with second-degree assault and is to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead, Nassau County police said.

The arrest of Dixon, of 67 Terrace Ave., came after an anonymous tip, police said.

Nassau police said the 38-year-old female bus driver was driving the NICE bus west on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square around 3:30 p.m. Monday when a passenger became upset when the bus didn't stop at an unscheduled stop.

The female passenger began to strike the driver in the head as the bus approached New Hyde Park Road. The bus stopped and the suspect left the bus, along with a young female child.

The woman fled on foot east on Hempstead Turnpike. The driver was taken to a hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
