Cops: Payroll supervisor stole $240G
A payroll supervisor at a Syosset-based manufacturing firm has been arrested and charged with stealing $240,000 from the company during the past 20 months, Nassau County police said.
Police said Luz Doris Barragan, 54, of Fresh Meadows, Queens, was arrested Wednesday at the her job at Win-Holt Equipment, a manufacturer of racks, carts and other products for supermarkets and restaurants.
The company is headquartered in Syosset and has branches in four other U.S. cities, China, Mexico and India.
Barragan created fictitious employees and Social Security numbers and had their paychecks deposited in her personal bank account between September 2009 and this month, police said.
She was arraigned at First District Court Thursday on charges of grand larceny, identity theft and falsifying business records. She was at Nassau County jail early Thursday evening pending a $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash bail.
