Cops: Pedestrian struck, killed by taxi
A man walking in West Hempstead early Thanksgiving morning was killed when struck by a taxi, Nassau County police said.
Johnny Bonilla, 22, was walking in the roadway on Hempstead Avenue, south of Oakford Street, at 2:05 a.m. when he was hit by a 2004 Dodge Caravan, police said.
Bonilla was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Caravan was traveling north on Hempstead Avenue and detectives reported "no apparent criminality at this time," according to a news release.
The male driver passed a breath-analyzer test at the scene, and his vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection, police said.
