Cops: Police dog helps nab burglar

A Nassau police dog responding to a burglary in progress in Baldwin on Friday, captured a 23-year-old Baldwin man who was later charged in connection with three other burglaries in Nassau, detectives said.
Troy Deans of 238-36 116 Ave., was charged with multiple burglary and attempted burglary charges, as well as grand larceny and criminal trespass.
The police dog, Gehrig, located Deans at the rear of a Clinton Avenue home about 3 a.m., shortly after burglary calls on Clinton and Central avenues, police said.
Deans initially tried to get away after he was discovered, police said, but was stopped by the dog.
Deans was charged with burglaries at a business on Grand Avenue in Baldwin, on Sept. 21, a home on Bayview Avenue, Freeport, on Nov. 5, and a home on Kings Parkway, Baldwin, on Nov. 9, from which a SUV was also stolen.
Deans was to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court, Hempstead.
