Detectives are investigating an attempted armed robbery of a Farmingdale gas station attendant at closing time late Sunday.

A 50-year-old worker closed the Valero gas station at 545 Conklin St. at 10 p.m. and got into his car, parked in the lot, when he was approached by a man displaying a handgun and "wearing a plastic bag over his head, blue jeans and a sweatshirt," Nassau County police said in a news release.

"The subject demanded money and the victim replied he had none," police said in the release. "The subject then fled the scene eastbound on foot toward Secatogue Avenue."

No one was injured and no money was taken, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery attempt is urged to anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
