Cops probe car fire after argument

Authorities are investigating a car fire in Massapequa Park on Saturday night that occurred after two brothers had an argument.

Stephen Daresta, chief of the Massapequa Fire Department, said firefighters received a call reporting a car fire in a parking lot in Massapequa Park at about 9:30 p.m.

When firefighters arrived at the parking lot behind 1030 Park Blvd., they found two cars engulfed in flames. Daresta said a small, two-door car was on fire, and the heat and flames of that fire set an adjacent vehicle aflame.

Nassau County police said Dennis Ohare, 44, of Bellmore, was arguing with his brother, who owned the two-door car, when the fire occurred. Police arrested Ohare and charged him with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection against him. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said arson investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.

Firefighters took 15 minutes to extinguish the two vehicles, and no one was injured, Daresta said.
