Cops probe Elmont cellphone store heist
Police are investigating the Sunday afternoon armed robbery of an Elmont cell phone store.
Two men entered Metro PCS, 555 Hempstead Tpke., at 4:53 p.m., "pretending to be customers," Nassau County police said in a Monday morning news release.
One of the men "produced a small silver handgun and had the victim, a 27-year-old male employee, lie face down on the ground," while the other robber stole an undetermined amount of cellphones and cash from the register, police said.
The men fled, and were last seen heading east on Hempstead Turnpike, police said. There were no injuries.
Police described the armed assailant as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and in his 20s, wearing a dark jacket, black hoodie and blue jeans. The other suspect was 6 feet, 3 inches tall, about 25 years old. He wore a black hoodie and blue jeans.
