A man who had just withdrawn money from an ATM in Lakeview was shot twice during an attempted robbery Friday, police said.

The wounded 30-year-old man was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

The victim had withdraw money from a store ATM on Woodfield Road, police said, and was standing with some friends nearby on Bee Gee Court shortly after 5 p.m.

At that time, a man came up to him, displayed an automatic handgun and demanded the victim's property, police said. The victim grabbed the gunman's arm, police said, and the gunman fired the weapon.

The victim then stepped back, but the gunman fired toward his face, police said, striking the victim's hand.

The gunman, then running away north on Woodfield Road, fired again, striking the wounded man in the shoulder, police said.

The gunman was described as a man 18- to 20-years old, wearing khaki pants, a white T-shirt, and a red baseball cap.
