A man was shot and killed late Sunday in North Bellmore, and homicide investigators at the scene "do not believe it is a random act," police said Monday.
Nassau police identified the victim as Hasan Kaya, 49, who was found with "numerous gunshot wounds" outside a first-floor apartment he was renting on East Meadow Avenue by officers responding to a call of shots fired at 11:35 p.m.
Kaya was shot several times in the torso and legs, police said. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead.
Homicide investigators remained at the scene Monday. They said they found shell casings from a .38-caliber handgun.
A police spokesman said investigators think the victim was targeted.
No arrests have been made.
Detectives asked that anyone with information contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
