Cops probe robbery of girl, 14, walking home from school bus stop
Police are looking for a knife-wielding man who they said robbed a 14-year-old girl walking home from her school bus stop Monday in Freeport.
The girl, a ninth-grader, was not injured.
Nassau County police said the suspect stole a gold necklace, "forcibly" removing it from the girl's neck during the attack.
The robbery occurred on Southside Avenue near Guy Lombardo Avenue at 3:15 p.m.
Police said the suspect was armed with a "red handled" knife -- and said he fled west on Southside Avenue.
The attacker is believed to be in his early to mid-20s, about 5-foot-4, with a medium build. He wore dark color shorts, a dark tank top and a white towel wrapped around his head.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
