A 22-year-old man was shot in the forearm and hip Thursday night by a gunman who police said opened fire on a group of seven men standing on a street corner in New Cassel.

The victim was transported by Nassau County police ambulance to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said no one else in the group was injured.

Third Squad detectives were investigating the shooting, which occurred just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Maplewood Drive and Clover Lane, police said.

The gunman, who police said wore a blue hoodie, shot at the group -- then fled.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
