Nassau police Monday continued to look for the person who shot two men in a Garden City restaurant early Sunday.

The two men, in their early 20s, were shot, one critically, after an altercation among patrons escalated into a shooting inside Mint, a restaurant and lounge on Ring Road at the Roosevelt Field mall complex.

One man suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was hospitalized in critical condition, police said. The second victim was shot in the leg. Police said he was in stable condition.

The shooting occurred about 3:26 a.m. Sunday.

Police did not release the identities of either victim, except to say one man was 21 and the other 23. The age of the victim in critical condition was not clear.

The cause of the initial fight also was not clear, but police said it escalated -- an "unknown subject" then proceeding to "fire gunshots into a crowd of people."

The suspect then fled, police said.

Nassau homicide detectives and the crime-scene unit worked at the restaurant until shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, when they released the scene to restaurant employees, who were seen entering the building with brooms and mops. The restaurant reopened to diners two hours later.

Police said anyone with information regarding the shooting could call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.

Meanwhile, the restaurant's manager declined to provide additional details Monday.
