A woman walking home from a nearby bus stop Tuesday evening was accosted by a man in Valley Stream who stole her purse and ran off, Nassau County police said.

Police are searching for the assailant, who jumped into a white four-door car.

The victim, identified only as a 30-year-old woman, was not injured in the street robbery.

The incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. as the woman walked westbound on Meyer Avenue after getting off a bus.

Police said the robber, described only as a man in his 20s, about 6-foot tall, placed "a sharp object" against the woman's arm, grabbed her purse and stole the bag.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
