Cops: Queens man charged in Lake Success burglary

A 29-year-old Queens man was arrested Saturday in a home burglary after Lake Success police, observing the man's car "parked suspiciously" in that community, investigated, Nassau County police said.

According to the felony complaint, Jaiver Alberto Gonzalez, of East Elmhurst, "with others not yet apprehended," shattered a sliding glass door at a Horizon Road home, entered and removed property.

Charged with second-degree burglary and unlawful possession of marijuana, Gonzalez pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Sunday in First District Court, Hempstead, where bail was set at $20,000. His next court appearance is Wednesday in Mineola.

Patrolling on Horizon Road in response to burglaries in the area, police saw the car, a 1998 silver Mercedes-Benz, which drove away quickly, leading officers to pull the car over and ask the driver why he was parked on the street, police said.

When he could not give an answer, and police learned of the nearby burglary at 8:59 p.m., they arrested Gonzalez, who had marijuana, police said.
