Cops: Residents scare off burglar
A loud bang alerted them.
And a North Bellmore couple were fortunate that their presence -- and the blare of their alarm system -- scared off a burglar who broke into their home late Tuesday, Nassau County police said.
Police said the burglary took place at the home on South Carley Court at about 10:30 p.m.
A male resident, 62, and his wife, were in the bedroom, police said, when they heard "a loud bang" followed by the alarm sounding.
The man exited the bedroom to find a burglar, about 6-foot-3, standing in his hall, wearing a knit hat, a tan jacket or hoodie, black pants, black gloves and a black handkerchief covering his face.
The intruder ran out a back door, which police said he had broken in order to enter the home. There were no injuries and nothing stolen.
Police ask anyone with information regarding the burglary to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
