Cops: Robber sought in Lawrence store robbery
Police said they are looking for a man who walked into the storefront on Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence, asked the cashier if she could make change for the bus and then jumped the counter and grabbed cash.
The robbery occurred at L. Business Multi just before 6 p.m. Thursday. The company's website says the office specializes in translation services, green card services and other community services.
Police said the man walked into the office, asked the 19-year-old female employee for change for a dollar so he could use the bus, then "leaped through a partition" and forced her to the floor -- simulating having a gun -- once she opened the cash register.
Police said the man then stole cash and fled the scene.
The employee was not injured, police said.
The robber is described as being in his 30s, about 5-foot-10, 185 pound, and police said he was wearing dark blue or black pants, a tan shirt, a fur-lined mouton-style hat, black shoes and sun-glasses.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
