Mace was sprayed into the faces of four people at the Valley Stream Deli Thursday by two robbers, police said, one of whom was also armed with a handgun.

The two employees and two customers in the store at 1021 Elmont Rd., did not resist when the armed men entered at 2:30 p.m., police said, but were all immediately sprayed with Mace.

The robbers took money from the deli's cash register, as well as cash and personal papers from at least one of the customers, police said.

The victims suffered eye irritation, but declined medical treatment, police said.

The suspects, both about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and of thin build, were wearing dark clothing and dark masks, police said.

Detectives asked that anyone with information regarding the robbery contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
