Police are searching for a robber who grabbed a pocketbook off the arm of a woman sitting in a car in Rockville Centre late Tuesday, stealing both cash and credit cards.

The victim, identified only as a 77-year-old female, was not injured in the robbery.

Nassau County police said the woman was in her car in front of her home on Lehigh Court when the robber, an unknown male, accosted her at about 11:15 p.m. Police said the man wore a dark-blue hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

The robber "ripped the victims' pocketbook" from her arm, then fled on foot.

The victim told police said saw the suspect enter a white or silver passenger vehicle that fled west on Beverly Road.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
