A 14-year-old Roosevelt teenager was shot and wounded Thursday afternoon while walking home from high school, Nassau police said.

The teenager was on Conlon Road near Roosevelt High School at 2:54 p.m., police said, when he was struck by one bullet that hit both his upper left arm and his back, police said.

After the shooting, police said the victim went back into the high school building and security officers notified Nassau police.

He was transported by ambulance to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

News of the gunfire prompted the district to briefly lock down the school, said district spokeswoman Vivian E. Isom.

"It happened down the block and around the corner," Isom said of the shooting's proximity to the high school.

It occurred shortly after ninth period - the last period of Roosevelt High's day session - just as night school was getting under way and night students were in class, Isom added.

Detectives asked that anyone with information about this incident call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
