Cops: Seaford suspect ingested substance
A Seaford man has been arrested on charges of drug possession and tampering with evidence after he allegedly ingested an unknown substance during a foiled drug transaction Sunday in his driveway, Seventh Squad detectives said.
Andrew F. Schneider, 44, of Bryant Drive, met a man in a dark-colored Nissan in his driveway at about 7:42 p.m. for what appeared to be a drug transaction, police said. Schneider had a bag contAining a "white rock substance" in his right hand, according to a Monday news release, as he approached a man parked in the Nissan.
As two plainclothes officers approached the two men, the driver of the Nissan backed out of the driveway. One of the officers broke the driver's side window of the car, injuring his hand and index finger, the release said. The officer was treated at a local hospital.
The car was last seen traveling north on South Seaman's Neck Road.
In the meantime, police said Schneider told the officers he had ingested the contents of the bag. He was then arrested and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.
Police said they were not sure what was in the bag and that the substance had yet to be analyzed Monday.
Schneider is charged with tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Arraignment information was not immediately available.
