Police are searching for a person in a red or orange Dodge Challenger who was seen firing "multiple gunshots" at a dark-colored Nissan Xterra Tuesday morning in Valley Stream.

Police said both vehicles then fled the scene on Sunrise Highway -- the Nissan headed east, the Challenger west. No other descriptions were available, police said.

Nassau County police said the incident occurred at 12:16 a.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and West Jamaica Avenue. Officers responding to the report of shots fired said they found multiple shell casings -- and a witness who said he saw a dark-colored Xterra followed by the Challenger.

The witness told police he saw a person in the Dodge firing gunshots at the Xterra.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
