Cops seek help in Great Neck swastika case
Nassau County police are trying to find who vandalized a car in the parking lot of a Great Neck synagogue during the weekend, scratching a swastika into its paint.
Crime Stoppers and police issued a crime alert Tuesday, asking for help in the case.
Sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, one or more vandals scratched a swastika into a blue, 1998 four-door Mercedes that was parked in a side lot of Babylonian Jewish Center, at 440 Great Neck Rd.
Police also said other scratch marks were made in the car's paint
The owner of the car, a 39-year-old man, parked it for the Sabbath Friday afternoon at the synagogue and his son found it damaged when he walked to morning service on Saturday.
Jews who don't drive on the Sabbath sometimes park their vehicles at a synagogue before sunset and walk home. Once the Sabbath ends, they drive home.
The case is being investigated by Sixth Squad detectives, based in Manhasset.
Anyone with information on the incident can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
