Cops seek man in curling iron robbery
A confrontation with a man stealing curling irons inside a Walgreens in Elmont Wednesday ended with a store manager getting injured and the robber getting away, police said.
The incident occurred at the pharmacy on Dutch Broadway at 1:45 p.m., Nassau County police said.
The robber, described as about 6-foot-2, 280 pounds, walked into the store wearing black pants and a green Army jacket, and was shoving two curling irons valued at $80 into the jacket when he was spotted by a store employee, police said.
The employee alerted the 22-year-old store manager, police said.
The store manager confronted the suspect and, police said, attempted to stop him.
A struggle ensued, and the store manager suffered a hand injury after he struck it on the metal detector at the front door to the store, police said.
The robber ran off, jumped into a gray four-door Nissan and fled, police said.
The store manager declined medical attention at the scene.
Police said they are searching for the robber.
