A man pretending to be a shopper stole a gold necklace valued at $1,125 from the Sears store in Massapequa Saturday, Nassau police said Wednesday.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect who went into department store at Sunrise Mall shortly after 7:10 p.m. and asked to see a 24-inch-long, 10-karat gold necklace, police said.

He ran out of the store with it, then pedaled away from the mall on a gray mountain bike, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The suspect had a thin mustache and was stocky, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 220 pounds, police said. He wore a black baseball cap, black jacket with studded lettering and blue jeans, police said.

Anyone with information may call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
