Nassau County police are hoping the public can help find a man they say stabbed someone inside a Freeport deli early Sunday.

The victim, 42, was inside Centro Americano Deli, 129 S. Main St., at about 3:25 a.m. when a man stabbed him in the chest with a large black handled knife, police said. The man then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for nonlife threatening injuries, officials said.

Police ask that anyone with information about the assault call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Calls will remain confidential, police said.
