Nassau County police are investigating after they said a woman was assaulted and robbed Saturday evening as she walked down a Westbury street.

Police said the victim, 46, was walking east on Winthrop Street at 8 p.m. when another woman came up to her and asked to borrow her phone.

After the victim refused, the suspect pushed her to the ground and punched her in the face before taking her pocketbook, police said.

The suspect then ran east toward School Street, police said. She was described as being about 5-foot-3, heavyset, and wearing a black coat, blue hooded sweatshirt and a black head covering.

The victim declined medical attention at the scene.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
