Crime Stoppers and Nassau County police are looking for a man who last month posed as a police officer to steal a person's wallet and then used stolen credit cards to make purchases and cash withdrawals.

Police released photographs Tuesday of the suspect and the car he was driving at about 10 p.m. on Jan. 29, when he allegedly took the wallet during a traffic stop near Central Avenue and May Street in South Hempstead.

After taking the person's wallet, the suspect fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The photos came from surveillance cameras taken near the ATM machines where the suspect made withdrawals, police said.

Police did not say how much cash was taken in the withdrawals or provide details on the purchases made by the suspect.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
