Nassau County police said Sunday night they are looking for suspects in connection with a pair of armed deli heists in Baldwin and Freeport.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police said, three men entered the United Deli on Seaman Avenue in Baldwin wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and masks. Two deli employees, a man, 49, and a woman, 44, were working at the time, police said.

One of the suspects, said to be in his late teens or early 20s, displayed a handgun, police said. The two other suspects, also said to be in their late teens or early 20s, jumped over the counter and took an unknown amount of cash from a register.

The male deli employee suffered abrasions to his legs and hands while trying unsuccessfully to lock the suspects - all of whom wore white gloves with red fingertips - inside the deli, police said.

The suspects fled west on Pine Street and entered a dark-colored vehicle, police said.

At 9:21 p.m. Saturday, police said, three male suspects wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and masks, as well as white gloves with red fingertips, entered La Famosa deli in Freeport, less than 3 miles away from the Baldwin holdup.

One suspect showed a gun, police said, and cash was taken from the register before the suspects fled in an unknown direction. There were four employees in the deli at the time and no reported injuries, police said.

While there are similarities between the two robberies, police said any conclusive link will have to wait for a review of witness statements and surveillance tapes.

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
