A registered sex offender was arrested Sunday night and charged with felony sex abuse after he groped a woman inside a Levittown store, Nassau County police said.

Tod Stolting, 48, of Levittown, approached a 26-year-old woman inside the Target store at 3850 Hempstead Tpke., "put both hands inside her shirt and groped her," police said.

He hurriedly left the store, police said, as the woman screamed to alert store employees.

An Eighth Precinct police officer apprehended Stolting in the store parking lot at about 9:30 p.m.

Police said Stolting, of 259 Newbridge Rd., "attempted to flee from police and resist arrest before he was ultimately handcuffed."

Stolting, a registered sex offender, was charged with sexual abuse, resisting arrest and obstruction. The sexual abuse charge is a felony, police said, because Stolting has been convicted of two or more incidents of sexual abuse in the past 19 years.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
