A man trying to shoplift at the Massapequa Macy's fought with a security guard Friday morning and then with an off-duty Suffolk officer, injuring him, Nassau police said.

Henry Bryer, 54, of Roosevelt, was trying to steal merchandise at the Sunrise Mall department store and struggling with the security guard just before 11:30 a.m. when the off-duty officer intervened, police said.

The off-duty policeman identified himself, but the suspect ignored his order to get on the ground, police said.

In the struggle to arrest Bryer, the Suffolk officer got neck, back and elbow strain and was treated and released at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.

Bryer, of 65 Valentine St., is expected to be arraigned Saturday on second-degree assault, petit larceny and resisting arrest.
