Police said a Queens man used counterfeit $100 bills to purchase more than $900 worth of merchandise Tuesday afternoon at Lord & Taylor in Garden City.

Christopher Idore, 22, of 197th Street in St. Albans, is under arrest, charged with five counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, police said. He faces arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.

Nassau County police said that after Idore used the bills to make his purchase, the store loss-prevention manager, who watched the transaction via closed-circuit television, confronted him at the register, examined the bills and decided they appeared to be fake.

Police were called to the scene and Crimes Against Property Squad detectives determined the bills were counterfeit. Idore was placed under arrest.

It was not immediately clear what kind of items Idore attempted to purchase.
