A shot was fired at a Valley Stream man after he left his home Wednesday afternoon to confront two men who were banging on his door, Nassau police said.

The bullet missed him and, although he also was punched in the face, police said he required no medical attention.

The 28-year-victim was in his home on Charles Street at 3:10 p.m., police said, when there was banging on his door.

He went to the door and out of the building, approaching two men, to ask them why they were there, police said.

One man then punched him in the face, police said, and as the victim ran back to his home the second man took out a handgun and fired a shot at him.

The two men left in a late model dark blue BMW 5 series car, driven by a third man, police said.

The first attacker, 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 160 pounds, was wearing a black and red hooded sweatshirt, police said. The gunman, in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, of medium build, was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, police said.

Detectives asked that anyone with information contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
