Several shots were fired on or near the Hempstead High School property Friday evening, police said.

The incident occurred shortly after a varsity basketball game between Hempstead and Uniondale high schools, police said. Another scheduled game between the two schools' junior varsity teams was canceled, police said.

Hempstead Village Police Lt. James Hayman said there were no reported injuries, but both Hempstead police and Nassau County detectives were investigating.

The shots were fired in the vicinity of the high school's President Street entrance about 6:15 p.m., Hayman said.
