Cops: Smoke causes evacuation of Macy's at Green Acres Mall
A smoke condition forced the evacuation of the Macy's store at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream on Friday, Nassau County police said.
It was not immediately clear if the mall was open to the public at the time -- or if workers were the only evacuees.
Police said there were no reported injuries.
The smoke condition was reported in a 911 call at 8:01 a.m. Nassau fire officials said volunteer firefighters from Valley Stream, Elmont, Hewlett, Lynbrook and East Rockaway responded to the scene, along with police officers.
Officials said the incident was reported as a smoke condition in a tunnel providing access for trucks. Officials also said the origin may be electrical -- but said the situation was unclear. Police later said there was no damage to the mall.
A spokesman for the mall, which was open Friday morning, could not be reached for comment.
