A Westbury man stopped for speeding on the Meadowbrook State Parkway Sunday in Uniondale faces felony drug charges, State Police said.

Jason Rankine, 25, was driving a black Lexus 74 mph in a posted 55 mph zone south on the parkway near Hempstead Turnpike at about 4:10 p.m., police said.

Troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the car as they interviewed Rankine and they searched his car, according to a news release.

Troopers said they found a backpack in the trunk with more than one pound of marijuana.

Rankine was arrested and charged with criminal sale of marijuana and criminal possession of marijuana, each a felony, and several traffic violations, police said.

He was scheduled for arraignment Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
