Cops: Stolen cards used to buy generators

Crime Stoppers and the First Precinct said the suspects stole credit cards from the home of a Uniondale resident between Aug. 20 and Sept. 5, and then used the stolen cards to buy generators from Pep Boys stores in Hempstead and Baldwin.
The generator purchases came about the time Tropical Storm Irene hit Long Island, leaving, at one time, more than 500,000 residents without electricity.
The suspects also made several other purchases with the stolen cards, including a CVS in Baldwin and a Nike store in Roosevelt Field mall, police said.
