A stone slab fell from an overpass on the Southern State Parkway in Baldwin Monday, causing a two-car accident but no serious injury, State Police said.

Village Dock Inc., a Port Jefferson company, was using the stone slab to repair the overpass at Exit 20, Grand Avenue, and the stone fell onto scaffolding and then the parkway below, police said.

A police spokesman said the slab, weighing about 1,800 pounds, likely fell because equipment being used to put it into place was affected by the wet weather conditions.

A Toyota Camry traveling the parkway struck the stone then a guardrail, and another vehicle, a Scion, hit some of the wood from the scaffolding, police said.

The only reported injury was by the driver of the Toyota, police said; he had a cut finger.

A phone call to Village Dock was not immediately returned.
