Cops: Stopped parkway driver gets DWI
A Queens woman faces a drunken driving charge after a state trooper found her in a car stopped in the left lane of the northbound Meadowbrook Parkway in East Garden City on Saturday, State Police said Monday.
The trooper approached Cherie Burton, 46, of Richmond Hill, at 1:31 a.m. in a black Ford and "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" when interviewing her, police said in a news release.
Burton "failed sobriety tests" and her blood-alcohol content was measured at .20, police said.
She faces a driving while intoxicated charge and traffic violations. She is scheduled to appear June 24 in First District Court in Hempstead.
