Cops: Stranger tried to lure teen in East Rockaway
A stranger in a black sedan tried to convince a teenage girl to get into his car Thursday night in East Rockaway, Nassau police said.
The girl, 15, was walking on First Avenue about 9:20 p.m. when the car came nearby and its driver tried several times to lure her in, police said.
He drove off when he noticed she was on her cellphone, police said. No injuries were reported.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
