A Long Beach man is under arrest, charged with attempting to rob a gas station Sunday night in nearby Island Park, Nassau County police said.
Kyle P. Mclaughlin, 27, of 5 Curley St., was charged with third-degree attempted robbery, police said.
At his arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead, Mclaughlin was ordered held on $10,000 bond or bail, according to online court records.
Police said Mclaughlin entered a Petro gas station on Austin Boulevard in "an intoxicated condition" Sunday evening, lifting his shirt "as if he had a weapon" -- and demanding beer and cash from the station attendant.
Police said the 33-year-old attendant reacted by pushing Mclaughlin to the ground.
Police said the would-be robber then fled the gas station.
Police arrested Mclaughlin minutes later, at 9:38 p.m., as he walked along Austin Boulevard.
