Cops: Suspect sought in fatal Hempstead shooting
Homicide detectives are searching for a suspect in the Hempstead shooting that killed a 22-year-old man Thursday night.
Hempstead Village officers found Jose Alvarado of Hempstead with a gunshot wound, unconscious in the driveway of 83 Gladys Ave. at about 10:15 p.m., Nassau police said.
The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m., police said.
Hempstead officers went to Gladys Avenue in response to a notification by ShotSpotter, a gunshot sound detection system launched in Nassau in 2009 to help police find shooting locations more quickly.
Police declined to say what kind of gun was used or if a weapon was recovered at the scene.
No further details were released.
