A Hicksville man was arrested early Monday after he tried to remove a handgun from an officer's holster as police escorted him from a Westbury convenience store, police said.

According to a report by the Third Squad, two officers were escorting Erick A. Alvarado, 30, of 42 Kuhl Ave., from a 7-Eleven store on Powells Avenue because he was causing a disturbance.

As he was leaving with officers, police said, Alvarado attempted to remove a handgun from one of the officer's holsters. Police said they scuffled with Alvarado before arresting him.

Alvarado was charged with attempted robbery and resisting arrest, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
