Cops: Suspects arrested in robbery of teen in East Meadow
They held him up with a knife and a broomstick, stole his cell phone and told him to "leave the area and not return," police said.
But the 15-year-old victim of a Sunday night robbery in East Meadow went to the home of a friend and called police. Officers responding to the scene arrested Ruby Saint Joy, 18, of Fams Court, East Meadow, charging him with first-degree and second-degree robbery, as well as fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon, Nassau County police said.
Two male juveniles also were arrested, police said.
They were each charged with first-degree robbery.
The incident took place near Seventh Avenue at 7:55 p.m. Sunday, police said. They said Saint Joy approached the 15-year-old, then ordered one of the accomplices to search the victim's backpack. After taking the cell phone, Saint Joy ordered the victim to leave the area and not return, police said.
The cell phone was recovered, police said.
Saint Joy is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said. Arraignment details on the two minors was not available on Monday.
